Painter / Mechanical Assembler

Saint Michael, MN

Position Summary:

This position combines the duties primarily of an experienced Painter with those of a Mechanical Assembler. The painter duties include preparing and painting surfaces of machines, parts and other products with protective liquid coating materials to the color and finish specified. When not painting, the Mechanical Assembler duties include the ability to assemble and test components using engineering drawings, process documents, notes and photos. Basic required skills include ability to drill and tap holes, use wrenches and other hand tools and understand fasteners.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Painter Duties:

  • Prepare surfaces by removing rust, grease, dirt and/or mill scale from products using wire brush, solvents or other means as required.  Ensure that all special surface preparations, such as sandblasting if required, is complete.
  • Select paint per the engineering drawing or job operation listing and mask areas that are not to be coated.
  • Spray apply the coatings specified by the customer, following all manufacturer’s recommendations for storing, mixing and applying. 
  • Inspect painted products for runs, sags and unpainted areas.
  • Clean and maintain spraying equipment, booths and work area.
  • Clean and maintain respirators and other personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Maintain storage of hazardous materials as directed and per MPCA regulations.
  • Initiate corrective action if the process and/or equipment are not working properly.
  • Perform scheduled and preventive maintenance as required.

 

Assembler, Mechanical I Duties:

  • Position and assemble parts according to engineering drawings, blueprints, process documents and photos.
  • Test assemblies to ensure proper operation.

 

General Duties:

  • Perform all operations with the highest regard for personal safety and the safety of others.
  • Responsible for housekeeping in the general area.
  • Make continuous improvement suggestions.
  • Support other work areas / perform other duties as required.

 

 Qualifications/Requirements:

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • High mechanical aptitude
  • 5 years of experience with knowledge of surface preparation, coatings and curing.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, written instructions, manuals, safety rules, etc.
  • Positive attitude with high quality standard.
  • Sound decision-making with accurate data entry.
  • Requires proficiency in the use of forklifts, cranes, slings, chains, hooks and other appropriate devices or equipment as required to handle the products safely and efficiently.
  • Service attitude with ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Speak, read and write fluent English.

 

Work Environment and Physical Demands:

  • Full time position and must have the ability to work flexible hours and overtime when needed.
  • While performing duties, employee is required to stand, crouch and walk, including in an elevated work area. 
  • Occasional lifting is required up to 75 pounds (with assistance if necessary).
  • Employee is regularly exposed to fumes, airborne particles and noise levels requiring Personal Protective Equipment in a Manufacturing environment.

Mechanical Assembler II

St. Michael, MN

Position Summary:

  This position is for an experienced Mechanical Assembler.  Required skills include an ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints and bill of materials reports and to use that information to position and assemble parts and machines to those documents.  Operator should be highly competent in the use of assembly tools and have experience drilling and tapping holes. Work is performed with limited supervision.

                        

Key Responsibilities:

  • Position and assemble parts according to engineering drawings, blueprints, process documents and photos for the assembly of designated waterjet cutting motion system components.
  • Competent use of assembly tools with good mechanical assembly skills.
  • Perform all operations with the highest regard for personal safety and the safety of others.
